Shute Harbour is another mainland departure point, separate from Port of Airlie. Its Hamilton Island crossings take around 35–40 minutes, but you’ll need to get from Airlie Beach to Shute Harbour first.
A shorter boat ride doesn’t automatically mean a cheaper or quicker trip from town. For a central Airlie departure, Port of Airlie keeps the journey direct: get to the terminal, board the ferry and head for the island.

Hamilton Island has two distinct ferry arrival points: Hamilton Island Marina and Hamilton Island Airport Jetty. The airport jetty is strictly for passengers connecting with flights. It isn’t an alternative drop-off point for an ordinary island visit.
The jetty is about 100 metres from the airline check-in desks. When connecting to your flight, leave enough time to meet that airline’s check-in deadline, not just to walk from the boat. The time you need between your ferry and flight depends on your airline’s check-in deadline.
Proserpine Airport, also called Whitsunday Coast Airport, is on the mainland. Flying there doesn’t put you on Hamilton Island: you still have a land transfer and a ferry crossing ahead.
