3 Day West Coast Wilderness Tour from Launceston

This tour is for people who will enjoy taking short walks in ancient  rainforests, listening to the birds and more in the wilderness of Western Tasmania.

There is some history too. Spectacular limestone caves with star-like glow worms are also included. Tour goes anticlockwise, starting from Launceston, Cataract Gorge, Maracoopa Cave, then continues to Cradle Mt. Next day travel through coastal mining towns of Zeehan and Strahan before stopping at Queenstown. Strahan has a beautiful rainforest and waterfall, as well as delicious seafood. Then visit Lake St Clair, the southern extension of Cradle Mt National Park, hydropower stations and Mt Field National Park, before ending the tour in Hobart.

Day OneLaunceston, Mole Creek, Cradle Mountain – Lunch included

Pick up from the hotels,  then we visit Cataract Gorge, a jewel of the city, where we have a refreshing walk and see peacocks strolling around. Then we leave the city to visit Chudleigh Honey Farm for free honey tastings of more than fifty varieties of honey. Honey ice cream with its different flavour is highly recommended (own expense). Next, visit Maracoopa or Mole Creek Caves for a guided tour of limestone caves (see glow worms) that are millions of years old. Then arrive at the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park in the late afternoon. Overnight at Cradle Mountain National Park.

Day Two Cradle Mountain, Rosebery, Strahan - Breakfast and Lunch included

In the morning there’s a short drive to famous Dove Lake, view the magnificent Cradle Mountain at the background, take a short walk to glacier rock and then enjoy pleasant walk along the Enchanted Walk and see beautiful Cascade and Pencil Pine waterfalls. Visit the old Waldheim Cottage of pioneer Gustav Weindorfer, who made Cradle Mt world famous. On the way to Strahan, pass through beautiful Lake Rosebery, old mining towns, view the Southern Ocean (see as far as you can imagine – perhaps Argentina?). Arrive in Strahan, the western most town of Tasmania. See the historical train station at Regatta Point. Take an easy and refreshing walk through rainforest to see samples of Tasmania’s trees and Hogarth Falls. Visit an old saw mill and the award winning Woodcraft Centre with beautifully designed woodworks on display. Overnight at Queenstown.

Day ThreeStrahan, Queenstown, Hobart - Breakfast and Lunch included

Queenstown is an old mining town surrounded by mine-coloured mountains. From there, we head towards Hobart. En route, enjoy a short walk to beautiful Nelson Falls, then arrive at Lake St Clair – Australia’s deepest lake. On the way to Hobart we drive through highland lakes and rivers and hydroelectric power generators. Next stop is Mt Field National Park to view famous Russell Falls (regularly seen on Tasmanian calendars) and the Tall Trees before the tour concludes in Hobart about 17:45.
