What to expect

Swap the Airlie Beach waterfront for the cool green trails of Conway National Park on a small-group Segway adventure through the Whitsundays rainforest. Your morning begins with courtesy pickup from selected Airlie Beach locations, followed by a full safety briefing and hands-on rider training. No previous Segway experience is needed, and you will have time to practise starting, stopping and steering before setting off.

Once everyone is comfortable, follow your guide along an approximately 9-kilometre return section of the Whitsunday Great Walk. Glide beneath the rainforest canopy, pass towering trees and peaceful creeks, and stop along the way to learn about the plants, wildlife and stories of Conway National Park. Keep watch for goannas, colourful butterflies and rainforest birdlife, and take a closer look at the impressive roots of a giant strangler fig.

Midway through the ride, park your Segway beside Impulse Creek and settle in for a freshly prepared morning tea with baked treats, fruit, water, tea and coffee. It is a relaxed chance to enjoy the forest, listen to the creek and recharge before beginning the return ride.

With plenty of time for rest stops, photos and local commentary, this tour lets you experience more of the Whitsundays mainland without spending the morning on a long bushwalk. After one final glide through the rainforest, your courtesy transfer returns you to Airlie Beach around lunchtime.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tour suitable if I have never ridden a Segway before?

Yes. The tour begins with a full safety briefing and hands-on rider training. You will have time to practise starting, stopping, steering and turning before entering the rainforest, and the ride only begins once you can control your Segway safely and feel comfortable.

What are the age and weight requirements?

Riders must be at least 12 years old and weigh between 45 and 117 kilograms. Guests under 18 require permission and supervision from a responsible adult.

How physically demanding is the tour?

You will ride rather than walk the approximately 9-kilometre route, but you must remain standing for extended periods and actively balance, steer and control the Segway. Riders need to be able to stand unaided and have sufficient mobility, vision and hearing to follow the safety instructions. The tour is not suitable during pregnancy or for guests with back problems or mobility impairments.

Where does the courtesy pickup operate?

Courtesy pickup and return are available from selected locations around mainland Airlie Beach. Your confirmed pickup location and time will be provided with your booking details. Guests staying on a Whitsunday island need to make their own way to the Airlie Beach mainland before pickup.

What happens if it rains?

The tour normally operates in rain and most weather conditions when it is safe to do so. Bring a jacket or raincoat and dress for the forecast. The route or schedule may be adjusted if conditions make the rainforest trail unsafe.

Can I take photos during the tour?

There are several stops where you can safely take photos and enjoy the scenery. Phones and cameras should not be used while the Segway is moving because both hands are needed for steering and control. Guide photos are also normally made available through social media after the tour.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothing and covered shoes suitable for the weather. Bring a hat, camera and a jacket or raincoat if rain or cooler conditions are expected. Avoid long, loose clothing that could come close to the Segway wheels.

My partner and I had Zak take us on our tour through the rainforest. The Segway was easy to learn and a lot of fun to ride. Zak is super knowledgeable and we found the tour very interesting and entertaining. We would highly recommend this tour – the muffins and brownies are well worth the money on their own!
