What to expect

Leave the Airlie Beach waterfront behind for a freshwater swim in the Whitsunday hinterland—without hiring a car or giving up the rest of your day. This three-hour tour includes return transport and generous time at Cedar Creek Falls, making it an easy choice for travellers who want to explore beyond the islands or fit a nature break into a shorter stay.

Settle into the air-conditioned vehicle as the road winds through the tropical countryside towards Cedar Creek Falls. Along the way, your local guide shares stories about the area, its landscape and the communities beyond Airlie Beach.

From the parking area, it is a short walk to the natural swimming hole beneath the rocky waterfall amphitheatre. Spend your time swimming, floating with a pool noodle, exploring beside the water or simply finding a comfortable place to enjoy the rainforest setting. Water shoes are available to make entering the rocky pool easier.

Before returning to Airlie Beach, sit down for morning or afternoon tea beside the falls. Waterfall flow changes with recent rainfall, but the swimming hole can still be enjoyed when the cascade is quieter, subject to conditions on the day. Depending on the departure and local conditions, the tour may also include a brief stop at Whitsunday Gold Coffee or Colour Me Crazy.

Frequently asked questions

How much time will I have at Cedar Creek Falls?

The complete tour takes approximately three hours, with around one hour and 40 minutes to two hours usually spent at Cedar Creek Falls. This leaves time for swimming, morning or afternoon tea, photos and relaxing beside the water before returning to Airlie Beach.

Can I still swim if the waterfall is not flowing strongly?

Yes. The natural swimming hole remains accessible throughout the year, although the amount of water flowing over the falls depends on recent rainfall. Swimming is optional and remains subject to local conditions on the day. Jumping or diving from the rocks is not permitted.

Are water shoes and pool noodles provided?

Yes. Water shoes and pool noodles are provided for use at Cedar Creek Falls. Bring your own swimwear, towel, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and refillable water bottle.

Is the tour suitable for cruise-ship passengers?

Yes. The three-hour duration and choice of departure times make this tour suitable for many cruise visits. The standard meeting point is at the Blue Bus Stops behind the Deck Café in the Airlie Beach Lagoon car park. Allow enough time for your ship’s tender or port transfer and choose a departure that fits comfortably before the ship’s all-aboard time.

Is the tour suitable for families with children?

Yes. The short duration, comfortable transport, optional swimming and relaxed time beside the falls make it a good choice for families. Children must remain under adult supervision, particularly around the rocky water’s edge, and infants travel on an adult’s lap during transport.

How much walking is involved, and is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Only a short walk is required between the parking area and the falls. The ground near the swimming hole is natural, rocky and sometimes slippery. The tour is not wheelchair accessible and is best suited to guests who can manage short walks over uneven ground.

was fantastic, cheapest activity across the board, waterfall was flowing crazy, 1 hour of swimming was just enough, leaves plenty of time to take advantage of the lagoon facilities before getting the last ferry back to cruise ship at 3pm. $8 in a taxi from cruise drop off to Cedar Creek pickup spot. Deffinatly recommend, transport was comfy, driver friendly and informative, saw a croc, and a goanna, was awesome.

Jenny was excellent, very knowledgeable and funny. Morning tea was well stocked. If you like cold water, wear your swimmers and bring a towel. Plenty of great photo ops around the falls, wear shoes with good grip if you want to climb up to the top of the falls.
