What to expect

Your experience starts with pickup from a selected Airlie Beach location and the short trip to the Skydive Australia drop zone at Whitsunday Airport. On arrival, check in with your photo ID, complete the required paperwork and meet your tandem instructor. After a safety briefing and harness fitting, you will board the aircraft when weather and operating conditions are ready.

The flight to altitude gives you your first aerial views of Airlie Beach, the Whitsunday coastline and the surrounding islands. Once you reach your selected height, your instructor will complete the final checks before you leave the aircraft together.

Choose the 8,000ft option for up to 10–20 seconds of freefall, or the 15,000ft option for up to 60 seconds. Freefall reaches speeds of more than 200 km/h. Once the parachute opens, the pace slows for a canopy ride of around 5–7 minutes, giving you more time to take in the coastline, islands and reef before landing.

After the jump, return to the drop zone for your personalised certificate. Photo and video packages are not included in the standard jump price, but they can be added before the jump or purchased at the drop zone.

Which jump height should you choose?

8,000ft Tandem Skydive – Choose this option if you want the full tandem experience at a lower price and are comfortable with a shorter freefall of up to 10–20 seconds.

15,000ft Tandem Skydive – The better choice if freefall is the main reason you are booking. It gives you the longer flight to altitude and up to 60 seconds of freefall.

Keep the rest of your day flexible. Weather, wind, cloud, air traffic and other operating conditions can change the check-in time, jump altitude or landing area.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the 8,000ft and 15,000ft jumps?

The main difference is the length of the freefall. The 8,000ft option includes up to 10–20 seconds of freefall, while the 15,000ft option includes up to 60 seconds. Both options include the safety briefing, tandem instructor, flight to altitude, parachute descent and views over the Airlie Beach and Whitsundays area.

How much time should I allow for the whole experience?

Keep at least half a day free and avoid booking a flight, cruise or other timed activity immediately afterwards. Check-in, training, gearing up and aircraft loading all add to the total time, and weather or air-traffic delays can extend the experience beyond the planned schedule.

What happens if the weather changes?

Skydiving depends on wind, cloud, rain and air-traffic conditions. Your check-in or jump time may be delayed, and the jump altitude or landing area may change. Airlie Beach uses several landing areas: coastal locations are used when conditions allow, but an inland landing area may be selected when necessary. If the jump cannot proceed, the booking team will help arrange the available rescheduling options.

Are there age or weight requirements?

The minimum age is 16. Anyone aged 16 or 17 must attend with a parent or legal guardian, who must be present at the drop zone to complete the required consent and check-in forms. Everyone is weighed at check-in, including clothing and shoes. Weight surcharges apply from 94kg, and higher weights require an additional safety assessment. Guests around or above 110kg should confirm eligibility before booking because the limit can depend on conditions and instructor availability.

Can I skydive if I have a medical condition or have recently been scuba diving?

Tell the booking team before your jump if you have a medical condition, recent injury or surgery, limited mobility, epilepsy, a heart condition, blocked sinuses or another issue that could affect participation. A medical certificate or additional assessment may be required. Skydiving is not permitted during pregnancy, and you must not scuba dive during the 24 hours before your scheduled jump.

What should I wear, and can I wear glasses?

Wear comfortable clothing and fully enclosed running or sports shoes. Avoid sandals, thongs, high heels and loose items that could come off during the jump. Prescription glasses and contact lenses are permitted; suitable goggles are provided, but let your instructor know if you wear contact lenses. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID.

Are photos and videos included, and can I bring my own camera?

Photos and videos are not included in the standard jump price. An instructor-operated media package can be added online or purchased at the drop zone, subject to availability. Personal GoPros, cameras, phones and camera-equipped smart glasses cannot be taken on the aircraft or used during the jump.

Can friends or family watch the landing?

Yes, spectators are welcome. They can usually watch at the coastal landing areas, although the exact landing location depends on conditions. Space on the transfer bus is limited and jumpers receive priority, so spectators should confirm availability beforehand or arrange their own transport. The minimum age for passengers on the operator’s buses is 12.
