Most stops involve short walks, and there are easier alternatives if you prefer fewer stairs. At The Neck, you can choose the 279-step climb to Truganini Lookout, stop at a lower lookout, or follow the flat boardwalk to the beach. Cape Bruny Lighthouse begins with a 5–10 minute uphill walk, followed by 72 internal steps to the balcony. The climb is optional — you can still enjoy the coastal views from the base and visit the lighthouse museum.

Bruny Island can be wonderfully atmospheric in changing weather, and the tour normally continues in rain or wind with the route adjusted to suit the day. Bring warm layers, a rain jacket and comfortable closed-toe shoes, even in summer. The tour is only cancelled when severe weather or a safety concern makes operating unsuitable.
