Frequently asked questions

How long should I allow for the aquarium?

Allow around two hours for a relaxed visit. If you want to attend several wildlife presentations, spend time at the Marine Touch Tank or read the displays in more detail, two and a half to three hours will feel more comfortable.

Is this experience suitable for families with young children?

Yes. Families can explore the aquarium at their own pace, pause at the large viewing windows and underwater tunnel, and join the short animal presentations and supervised Marine Touch Tank experience. Toilets with baby change facilities are also available onsite.

Is the aquarium wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The aquarium has even ground surfaces, lifts, ramps and accessible toilets throughout, making the exhibition route easy to navigate with a wheelchair or mobility aid. Accredited guide and service dogs are also welcome with proof of certification.

Is parking available near the aquarium?

Yes. Three-hour free street parking is available nearby, along with metered spaces, a drop-off zone and accessible parking close to the entrance. The aquarium is also one block from the Cairns Esplanade and Lake Street bus terminal, and within walking distance of many central Cairns hotels.

Can I store luggage or bags during my visit?

Yes. Paid luggage storage and small rental lockers are available onsite. This is convenient if you are visiting after checking out of your accommodation or before travelling to the airport.

Is the Turtle Hospital visit included with this ticket?

The Turtle Hospital is available as a separate guided upgrade rather than being included with this ticket. The experience lasts approximately 30 minutes and gives you the opportunity to meet rescued sea turtles and learn about their treatment and rehabilitation. Choose the ticket that includes the guided Turtle Hospital visit if you would like to add this experience.

Is the aquarium worth visiting if I am also taking a Great Barrier Reef tour?

Yes. The aquarium complements a reef trip by giving you close-up views of animals that can be difficult to spot in the wild. It also explains how the region’s rainforest, freshwater rivers, mangroves and coral reefs connect, making it a rewarding experience before or after your day on the Great Barrier Reef.
