What to expect

Set sail from Cairns at 11:00 am aboard a modern catamaran for a full-day adventure to Green Island National Park, a tropical paradise in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Relax on deck during the scenic journey before spending around three hours enjoying the island’s pristine beauty.

Once on Green Island, stroll along rainforest boardwalks, unwind on sandy beaches, or swim in the clear lagoon waters. With included snorkelling gear, you can explore vibrant coral gardens and encounter tropical marine life up close. For a more relaxed reef experience, choose an optional semi-submarine or glass-bottom boat tour to admire colourful fish and coral without getting wet.

You’ll also have the option to add a buffet lunch, making your island day even more enjoyable. With plenty of time to swim, snorkel, walk, or simply relax, Green Island is the perfect combination of reef and rainforest. Return to Cairns Marina at approximately 5:00 pm after a memorable day in paradise.

Frequently asked questions

What reef activity is included, and can I add other experiences?

Your booking can include either snorkel gear or a glass-bottom boat tour, depending on the option you choose. A cruise-only option covers the return journey but not either reef activity. You can also select extras such as the semi-submarine or buffet lunch when they’re offered with your option, making it easy to shape the day around swimming, dry reef viewing or a relaxed island visit.

Can I enjoy the reef if I don’t swim or prefer to stay dry?

Absolutely. The glass-bottom boat looks down over the reef from the surface, while the semi-submarine seats you below water level for a diver-style view. Each experience runs for about 30 minutes with commentary, so non-swimmers can see coral and marine life comfortably. You can also enjoy the rainforest boardwalks, beach and island facilities without getting in the water.

Is the snorkelling guided, and what equipment is included?

The included snorkelling is self-guided from the beach, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Snorkel hire includes a mask, snorkel, fins, flotation vest and lycra suit, with safety tips provided on the crossing and a lifeguard service on the island. If you’d prefer extra confidence in the water, an optional 35-minute guided beginner session may be available for guests aged six and over.

Is lunch included, and are dietary options available?

Lunch is included only when you select an option with the buffet. It’s served aboard the air-conditioned vessel at Green Island and usually features a mix of hot dishes, salads, breads and seafood, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices represented on the menu. The menu can change, and the buffet should be pre-booked rather than left until the day. After booking, please contact us with any dietary requirements.

Is this tour suitable for young children and prams?

It can be a lovely family day, especially when you want a flexible mix of beach time, easy walks and reef viewing. Prams can be taken on the vessel, and Green Island’s boardwalks and pathways are practical for wheels; the sandy beach itself is less convenient. Children under 16 must remain under the supervision of an adult aged 18 or over.

What facilities are available on Green Island?

You’ll find places to buy food and drinks, shops, showers and shaded areas around the island. The larger vessel moored at the jetty is also available as an air-conditioned base during the day, which is handy when you want a cool break between activities. Bring a card or some cash for any food, drinks, souvenirs or optional activities you decide to purchase.

What if I’m prone to seasickness?

The crossing takes about 45 minutes aboard a fast, stable catamaran, although it can still feel bumpy in some sea conditions. If you’re prone to motion sickness, take your usual precautions before boarding. Complimentary natural ginger tablets are available onboard and work best when taken about 30 minutes before departure.
