Journey south from Darwin into Nitmiluk National Park, home to the spectacular Katherine Gorge system of 13 sandstone chasms carved by the river over millions of years. Along the way, pass former World War II airstrips and stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery to pay respects to those who lost their lives in the 1940s air raids.
Continue to Edith Falls, where conditions permitting, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural waterhole surrounded by paperbark and pandanus trees. After an included lunch, set out on a two-hour cruise through Katherine Gorge. Relax as you glide between towering cliffs, looking out for freshwater crocodiles basking in the sun and spotting a wide variety of bird species.
Your tour also offers insights into Aboriginal culture, with opportunities to see ancient rock art scattered throughout the park. On the return journey, take a short tour of Katherine township, the hub of the region’s cattle and farming industries, before passing through the historic mining town of Pine Creek. End the day with an evening stop along the Adelaide River, with dinner available at your own expense, before returning to Darwin.

This was a fantastic tour a long day but so worth it for the comfort and way it was managed. The bus driver and assistant made it so enjoyable communication and presentation really well done. I would thoroughly recommend this tour for people who want to experience this part of the Northern Territory.
