Begin your day with a breathtaking ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, gliding just meters above the lush canopy. Make the most of your journey by stopping at Red Peak and Barron Falls stations, where boardwalks and lookouts offer spectacular rainforest and waterfall views.
From Kuranda, take a shuttle to Rainforestation Nature Park for a unique rainforest adventure aboard a World War II Army Duck amphibious vehicle. Your knowledgeable driver-guide will point out native plants and wildlife as you travel across land and water. Afterward, visit the Tropical Treats orchard to sample exotic fruits and locally made ice cream.
Return by shuttle to Kuranda Village, where you’ll have free time to explore charming markets, galleries, and souvenir shops.
End your day with a scenic return to Cairns on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway. This iconic rail journey winds through hand-carved tunnels and across towering bridges, passing Stoney Creek and the mighty Barron Falls before your transfer back to your accommodation.

Know before you go
The day is organised for you, with hotel transfers, attraction tickets and meeting times arranged in advance. Your Army Duck experience includes live commentary, while Skyrail, the Scenic Railway and your time in Kuranda are mainly explored at your own pace. You get the convenience of a planned itinerary without having to follow a guide every minute of the day.
The standard itinerary allows around two hours in Kuranda Village across the day, arranged around your Rainforestation transfer and Army Duck departure. This gives you time to enjoy lunch and browse the markets, shops and galleries. If you would like to visit an additional attraction, choosing one priority will help you enjoy the village without rushing.
You can choose the lunch that best suits you during your time in Kuranda. Lunch is not included, with cafés, restaurants and market food available throughout the village. You can also dine at the Rainforestation restaurant at your own expense when the day’s schedule allows.
The Army Duck is a relaxed 45-minute guided journey through the rainforest on both land and water. Your captain brings the forest to life with entertaining commentary about tropical plants and wildlife before the vehicle splashes into the lake. Keep watch for turtles, fish, eels, water dragons and rainforest birds along the way.
Yes. The combination of a cable car, scenic train, village time and the Army Duck gives children plenty of variety without requiring a long bushwalk. Families travelling with toddlers have also enjoyed the experience. As it is a full-day tour, bringing snacks and a few familiar comforts can make the longer train journey more relaxing for younger children.
Yes. A small collapsible stroller is the easiest option for this tour. Skyrail can carry prams and strollers, while storage aboard the Scenic Railway is limited and a folded stroller should fit beneath the seat, with a maximum folded height of 25 centimetres. Large bags and full-size luggage are not suitable for this itinerary.
Yes. Rain often gives the rainforest a beautiful misty atmosphere, and the tour generally continues in wet weather. Skyrail gondolas are enclosed, umbrellas are available at Red Peak and Barron Falls, and the Army Duck is designed for rainforest conditions. The order of the day may be adjusted if weather affects any individual service.
Well organised! Felt looked after by the host (T). A good mix of organised activities and solo exploration. Good for solo travellers and groups.
Incredible experience but wish the army duck ride was longer, it was more of a pond than a river experience
Absolutely wonderful time! Great guides.
The information we received whilst on this trip was very informative. Good experience all round.
Great experience! It was toddler friendly and an overall amazing trip for the family!
