What to expect

Your eco-friendly adventure begins with a pickup from your Cairns hotel aboard Australia’s first 100% electric coach. Travel to the award-winning Rainforestation Nature Park, where your journey into the rainforest begins. Step aboard an authentic World War II Army Duck amphibious vehicle for a guided tour across land and water, spotting wildlife and learning about native plants.

Next, visit the Koala & Wildlife Park to meet Australia’s most iconic animals. Hand-feed kangaroos, see crocodiles, snakes, dingoes, and look out for rare species such as the cassowary and Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroo. Continue to the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, where you’ll walk the Dreamtime trail, try boomerang throwing, and watch demonstrations of spear-throwing and didgeridoo playing, followed by a lively dance performance.

Afterwards, enjoy free time in Kuranda Village. Stroll through the local markets, browse souvenir shops, or explore art galleries at your own pace.

In the afternoon, board the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for a breathtaking return to Cairns. Glide silently over the treetops, stopping at Red Peak and Barron Falls to explore the rainforest from the ground before arriving back around 5:30 pm.

Itineraries may operate in reverse or in a different sequence.

Very enjoyable journey. Information is clear and easy to understand. Carriages were clean and all the Staff were very friendly and helpful (including the bus drivers). Organised itinerary. The shows were interesting (and quite humorous, in a good way!). Safe and well looked after. Highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions

Is the whole day guided, or will I have time to explore independently?

The day includes a good mix of organised experiences and free time. Coach transfers and scheduled activities keep everything running smoothly. The Army Duck and Pamagirri experiences are guided, while the wildlife park and Kuranda Village can be explored at your own pace.

What happens during the Army Duck rainforest tour?

Climb aboard an authentic World War II amphibious Army Duck for an approximately 45-minute journey through the rainforest on land and water. Your guide will share stories about tropical plants and wildlife as the vehicle winds through the forest and splashes into the lake. Keep watch for turtles, water dragons, birds and other rainforest residents along the way.

How much free time will I have in Kuranda Village?

Plan on around two hours to explore Kuranda Village. You can browse the markets, visit local shops and galleries, or stop at one of the village cafés. The activities may run in a different order on some days, but time in Kuranda Village remains part of the experience.

Is lunch included in the tour?

Lunch is not included. Food and refreshments can be purchased at Rainforestation, or you can choose from the cafés and casual dining options in Kuranda Village during your free time.

Can I take a koala photo during the tour?

Entry to the Koala & Wildlife Park is included, giving you the chance to see koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, crocodiles and other Australian wildlife. Professional wildlife photos are available as an optional extra at scheduled times. Ask at the Gift Shop when you arrive if you would like to add a photo experience.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

Yes. The mix of animals, the Army Duck, hands-on cultural activities, Kuranda Village and the Skyrail makes this a fun and varied day for families. The activities are broken into manageable sections, without the need for a long rainforest hike. Children must remain with a supervising adult throughout the tour.

Can the tour still operate if it rains?

Yes. The rainforest can be especially atmospheric in wet weather. The Army Ducks have fitted roofs, and most Rainforestation activities are covered. Bring a light rain jacket so you can comfortably enjoy the village and outdoor areas throughout the day.
