Embark on a full-day adventure through the Kuranda Rainforest, combining breathtaking scenery, wildlife encounters, and Aboriginal culture. Begin your journey on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway, winding through lush mountains and waterfalls on your way to the rainforest village of Kuranda.
Your first stop is the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, the largest in the country, home to over 1,500 tropical butterflies including the dazzling Cairns Birdwing. Continue to Rainforestation Nature Park, where a delicious barbecue buffet lunch awaits. After lunch, board a World War II Army Duck amphibious vehicle to explore the rainforest by both land and water, spotting wildlife and learning about native plants. At the Tropical Treats orchard, sample exotic fruits and homemade ice cream.
The Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience brings culture to life with spear throwing, didgeridoo demonstrations, and traditional dance performances. You’ll also meet iconic Australian animals at the Koala & Wildlife Park — from koalas and wombats to cassowaries and kangaroos, which you can even hand-feed.
Conclude your day with a ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, gliding above the treetops before returning to Cairns with hotel transfers included.
Itineraries may operate in reverse or in a different sequence.
Genuinely had the most amazing day, it was seamlessly organised. Yes it was a busy day but for me this was a wonderful and incredibly enjoyable way to see the heart of Kuranda. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Cairns. It’s a must do!

Know before you go
This is a full and lively day designed to bring together Kuranda’s standout experiences in one easy itinerary. You’ll travel by Scenic Railway and Skyrail, visit the butterfly sanctuary and Rainforestation, enjoy the Army Duck, wildlife and cultural activities, and stop for lunch. The schedule is well organised, but it’s best suited to travellers who want to see and do plenty rather than spend several unhurried hours in the village.
Your transport, tickets and activity times are organised in advance, but you won’t normally stay with the same guide for every part of the day. Your driver helps with the transport and timing, while individual attractions have their own staff or guides. Keep an eye on the meeting times provided so you can enjoy each experience without missing the next connection.
You’ll have some time to explore Kuranda, but this tour is built around a full programme of included attractions rather than a long village-only visit. It’s a good idea to choose one or two priorities—perhaps a quick market browse, café stop or souvenir shop—and enjoy the rest of the planned experiences without rushing. The available village time and order of activities can vary with the day’s operating schedule.
It’s a fun 45-minute rainforest experience aboard a genuine World War II amphibious vehicle. The Army Duck travels through the rainforest on land before entering a calm lake section, while your Duck captain points out tropical plants and wildlife along the way. It’s an attraction-based rainforest tour rather than a long river cruise.
An Aussie BBQ buffet lunch is included at Rainforestation, with a selection of meats, salads, sides and fruit. Vegetarian and gluten-free choices are also listed. After booking, please contact us with any dietary requirements.
Yes. It’s a lively family day with plenty of variety, from the Scenic Railway and Skyrail to butterflies, Australian wildlife, the Army Duck and interactive cultural activities. The mix of transport, animals and organised experiences helps keep the day interesting for different ages. It is still a long full-day outing, so younger children will be most comfortable if they’re happy with a busy schedule and several transfers.
So much fit into the day, but still enough time at each destination. Such a perfect way to see Kuranda and good value for money.
I enjoyed everything: the ride on train from the station of Freshwater with many viewpoints, the butterfly sanctuary, the BBQ lunch, the visit to the different enclosures with koala, wallabies and other animals, the Aborigenal show (splendid), the ride on duck and, last but not the least, the sky rail.
The day was fabulous our guide AJ was amazing and very knowledgeable, my only criticism is the vehicle if you sit on the back seats you get very rocked about and it’s really uncomfortable and painful in your back
We were able to see a lot in one day. The activity included all of the highlights and activities in the area. We were given a schedule for each of our planned activities, and it was up to us to make sure we were at each activity at the scheduled time. We esp. liked the train and tram.
The sky ride was a real surprise, an absolute breathtaking journey over the Kuranda Rainforest.
