What to expect

Begin your Kuranda adventure with a spectacular journey aboard the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway. This iconic ride winds past waterfalls, deep gorges, and lush mountain ranges, offering breathtaking views on the way to the rainforest village of Kuranda.

At Rainforestation Nature Park, climb aboard a World War II Army Duck amphibious vehicle for a guided tour across both land and water. Your knowledgeable Duck Driver will introduce you to fascinating rainforest plants and help you spot native wildlife. Afterwards, enjoy tropical fruit tastings and homemade ice cream at the orchard.

Visit the Koala & Wildlife Park, where you can hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies, meet koalas, wombats, lizards, and see crocodiles up close. Refuel with a delicious barbecue buffet lunch before immersing yourself in Aboriginal culture. Learn boomerang throwing, watch spear-throwing and didgeridoo demonstrations, and enjoy a lively traditional dance performance.

Finish your day with a breathtaking ride back to Cairns on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Glide silently above the rainforest canopy and stop at scenic lookouts for views of Barron Falls and the surrounding landscape before returning to your accommodation.

Itineraries may operate in reverse or in a different sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Kuranda Tour

How much free time will I have in Kuranda Village?

The standard itinerary usually allows around one hour of free time in Kuranda Village. This is enough for a focused browse through the shops and markets or a quick coffee, but not enough to visit every attraction independently. The exact time may vary if transport schedules or operating arrangements change.

Will there be enough time for all the Rainforestation activities?

Yes. The visit is scheduled to cover the Army Duck rainforest tour, Koala & Wildlife Park, Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience and included lunch. Rainforestation advises that approximately 2.5 hours is sufficient for its main activities, while this tour normally schedules around three hours at the park. The order of activities may change on the day.

Is lunch included, and are vegetarian or gluten-free options available?

Yes. An Australian barbecue buffet lunch is included. The current buffet menu lists beef, pork sausage, chicken, salads, fruit, a vegetarian vegetable and tofu korma, and a gluten-free bread option. After booking, please contact us with any dietary requirements so they can be checked before travel.

Does the tour still operate if it rains?

Yes. Kuranda and Rainforestation are suitable for wet-weather visits. Skyrail gondolas are enclosed, Army Ducks can be fitted with wet-weather covers, and most Rainforestation activities are paved or undercover. Bring a light rain jacket and suitable footwear. Services may still be changed if weather conditions affect safe operation.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Parts of the tour are accessible, but the complete day is not automatically step-free. Skyrail accommodates most standard wheelchairs, and the Scenic Railway has a limited accessible carriage that must be arranged in advance. Rainforestation has accessible paths, although boarding the Army Duck requires transferring from the wheelchair onto a rear seat. Tour coaches have steps and ramp access cannot be guaranteed on every vehicle. Please contact us before booking so your mobility requirements can be checked across the complete itinerary.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

Yes. The combination of the Scenic Railway, Skyrail, wildlife, Army Duck and Aboriginal cultural activities gives children plenty of variety. However, it is a full-day experience of approximately 9.5 to 10 hours, so it is best suited to children who are comfortable with a long day and several scheduled activities. Children aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult on Skyrail.
