What to expect

Please note: This whale watching tour operates seasonally, from late May to early November each year.

Your day begins with check-in at the Brisbane wharf before boarding a scenic 75-minute ferry to Moreton Island. Enjoy a complimentary beverage on either the outbound or return journey as you cross beautiful Moreton Bay. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to explore the island and enjoy full access to Tangalooma Resort’s facilities, including swimming pools, cafés, restaurants, bars, and the beach.

At around 12:00 PM, board a smooth-sailing catamaran for a 3-hour whale watching cruise. This purpose-built vessel provides the ideal vantage point to observe humpback whales as they breach, tail slap, and glide through the waters. Throughout the cruise, expert commentary will share insights into their habitats, behaviors, and migration patterns. A light lunch is included on board to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Back on shore, you may choose to attend the Discover the World of Dolphins presentation at 3:15 PM, or simply relax with more time at the resort. As the sun sets, head to B&Bs Bar or the Wheelhouse Deck to enjoy a cocktail or mocktail with stunning views. Then, make your way to the jetty for the evening’s highlight: the wild dolphin feeding program. Watch a pod of dolphins as they swim close to shore for their nightly feed, an unforgettable way to end your day.

At approximately 7:00 PM, board the ferry back to Brisbane, arriving at the wharf at around 8:15 PM.

The meeting point is difficult to reach by public transport in the morning and in the evening you have to call a taxi because there are no buses anymore. The whale watching tour was very nice and we saw 14 whales that day. But you shouldn’t get seasick quickly, because the boat rocks very strongly. Moreton Island was very pretty and there was free time to explore the island.
