What to expect

See more of the Whitsundays in one morning with a high-speed boat ride and guided snorkelling at two different fringing reefs. This four-hour tour is a great choice if you want plenty of time in the water without giving up a full day on Hamilton Island.

Check in at 7:30am before setting off from Hamilton Island Marina at 8am. Enjoy a fun, fast ride through the Whitsunday Islands as you pass tropical coastlines, rocky headlands and secluded bays on the way to the first snorkelling location.

Once the boat is moored, gear up and slip into the water for around 45 minutes of guided snorkelling. Explore coral gardens filled with colourful reef fish, listen as the crew points out local marine life and keep an eye out for turtles moving through the reef.

Climb back onboard and continue to a second snorkelling site for another 45-minute guided session. Visiting two different reefs gives you more underwater variety and more opportunities to see the corals, fish and marine life that make the Whitsundays such a rewarding place to snorkel. The crew selects the locations each morning according to the wind, tide and visibility.

Snorkelling equipment, flotation devices and a sunsuit or wetsuit are all included, along with morning tea and reef and island commentary. From June to October, there is also a chance to spot humpback whales as they travel through the Whitsundays.

Return to Hamilton Island at around midday, with the afternoon still free for the beach, pool or another island activity. No previous snorkelling experience is required, although an average level of swimming ability is needed to take part.

Loved it. Crew were friendly and knew their stuff. Water was clear and we spotted a turtle. The ride out is pretty rough though, so not for anyone who gets seasick. Good value for a half day.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous snorkelling experience?

No. First-time snorkellers can join, and the crew provides a briefing, equipment and assistance in the water. However, an average level of swimming ability is required. Flotation devices are available, but guests who cannot swim may not be able to participate in the snorkelling sessions.

How are the two snorkelling sites chosen?

The crew selects two fringing-reef locations according to the day’s wind, tide, sea conditions and underwater visibility. This allows the itinerary to use the most suitable available sites, but the exact locations, visibility and marine-life sightings can vary.

Are snorkelling equipment and protective suits provided?

Yes. Snorkelling equipment, flotation devices and a sunsuit or wetsuit are included. Prescription masks can also be hired for an additional charge.

What is the high-speed boat ride like?

The ride is an active part of the experience and can feel lively, bumpy or wet when conditions are choppy. Follow the crew’s instructions and bring a warm layer or light spray jacket, particularly during the cooler months.

Is this tour suitable for guests with back, neck or hip injuries or during pregnancy?

It is not suitable for guests with pre-existing back, neck or hip injuries or guests in their third trimester of pregnancy. Suitability during other stages of pregnancy depends on the weather and sea conditions.

What should I do if I am prone to seasickness?

Sea conditions vary from day to day. If you normally use motion-sickness medication, take it before departure according to the product directions or advice from your pharmacist or doctor. A high-speed open boat can still feel rough when the wind and swell increase.

Is lunch included?

No. Morning tea is included, and additional drinks and snacks can be purchased onboard. The boat returns to Hamilton Island at around midday, so you can arrange lunch after the tour.

Had a really good time. The two snorkel spots were both decent and the water was clear. Guides were super chill and helpful. The boat ride is a bit wild so maybe skip breakfast if you get queasy.
