Took this tour with my parents visiting from overseas and it was the perfect way to show them the beauty outside of the city. Geelong’s waterfront was charming, and they absolutely loved the lighthouse and ferry experience. The whole day felt like a relaxed road trip with great stops and scenic views.

Such a well-organized day! I was traveling solo and felt really welcomed by the guide and the small group. The bathing boxes were such a cute photo spot, and the view from Murray’s Lookout was stunning. The lunch and dessert on the ferry were a nice touch. Would definitely do it again with friends.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the ferry crossing, and what is it like?

The crossing from Queenscliff to Sorrento takes around 40 minutes and is one of the most relaxing parts of the day. Settle into the indoor lounge or head to an open deck for sweeping views across Port Phillip Bay, with an onboard café and bar available during the sailing.

How much walking is involved, and will there be time for photos?

This is a sightseeing day rather than a hiking tour. Expect short walks at Geelong Waterfront, Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, London Bridge, Murrays Lookout and the bathing boxes, with time to enjoy the views and take photos. Comfortable walking shoes will make the day easier.

Is this tour suitable for families?

Yes. The ferry crossing, coastal lookouts, colourful bathing boxes and seasonal farm or chocolate stop give children plenty of variety. Booster seats must be requested at least 72 hours before travel. Any infant seating arrangements must be confirmed before booking, while prams and strollers cannot be carried because storage space in the vehicle is limited.

Is this a good tour for solo travellers?

Yes. You’ll join a guided group from central Melbourne, with transport and the day’s itinerary organised for you. The relaxed stops and shared ferry crossing make it easy to enjoy the experience and meet other travellers without needing your own group.

What time does the tour return to Melbourne?

Allow about 9.5 hours for the full day. Pickup is usually between 7.55am and 8.30am depending on your chosen CBD meeting point, with return to Melbourne generally around 6.00pm to 6.30pm. The exact timing can vary slightly with traffic and operating conditions.

Can I see dolphins during the ferry crossing?

Keep an eye on the water as the ferry crosses Port Phillip Bay. There is a good opportunity to spot dolphins, and migrating whales may also appear in winter. Wildlife sightings are a natural bonus, but the open decks give you a great vantage point.

Great itinerary with some beautiful coastal views, especially at Point Lonsdale and London Bridge. The ferry ride was smooth and relaxing. Only feedback is I wish we had a bit more time at the strawberry farm—it was fun but felt a little rushed. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
