What to expect

This afternoon tour to Phillip Island is perfect for those short on time but eager to witness one of Australia’s most iconic wildlife experiences. Travel in comfort with a friendly local guide as you journey through scenic coastal landscapes toward the island.

Your first stop is The Nobbies, where you’ll walk along dramatic cliffside boardwalks and enjoy breathtaking ocean views. Look out to Seal Rocks—you might spot playful fur seals lounging in the sun or swimming just offshore.

As the sun begins to set, the highlight of your day awaits: the Penguin Parade. Watch in awe as hundreds of little penguins waddle ashore after a day at sea, making their way back to their burrows in one of nature’s most charming displays.

After the parade, you’ll be returned to your original meeting point—refreshed, inspired, and delighted.

It was amazing from start to finish. Our guide, Bree, was so lovely and very informative about the history of Australia, all of the wildlife and plants, and of course the penguins. I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the breathtaking beaches of Philip Island and the cute little penguins - you will see so many of them!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the tour, and what time will I return to Melbourne?

Plan for around 7–10 hours, depending on the season. Departure is usually at 1:45pm or 2:45pm, with return to Melbourne between about 9:00pm and 12:15am. Your confirmed time will be shown for your travel date.

Where exactly is the Melbourne meeting point?

Meet at the corner of Flinders and Market Streets, beside the Immigration Museum at 400 Flinders Street. Wait on the Market Street side rather than at the museum’s front entrance, where your guide will meet you.

Which Penguin Parade viewing ticket is included, and can I upgrade?

Standard Viewing is included, with tiered grandstand seating and boardwalk access. A Penguins Plus ticket may be available for an additional cost when it appears during booking; if the option isn’t shown, it has sold out for that date.

Can I take photos during the tour?

You’re welcome to take photos at The Nobbies and other permitted stops. Once the Penguin Parade begins after sunset, cameras and phones must stay away to protect the penguins’ sensitive eyes.

Is there a dinner stop during the tour?

Yes. The tour includes a dinner stop, with food available to buy at your own expense, or you’re welcome to bring a packed meal and snacks.

What should I wear for the Penguin Parade?

The Penguin Parade is an outdoor, all-weather experience, and evenings can feel cold and windy even after a warm Melbourne day. Bring warm layers, a waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes so you can enjoy the boardwalks and viewing area.

How many penguins will I see?

The parade gives you a wonderful chance to watch little penguins return from the sea and follow them along the boardwalk towards their burrows. Because it’s a completely natural event, the number of penguins and their exact arrival time vary from night to night.
