General Viewing is included, with tiered grandstand seating overlooking Summerlands Beach. Upgraded experiences such as Penguins Plus and ranger-led options are not included and must be pre-booked separately. General Viewing still gives you the full arrival spectacle, followed by the chance to watch the penguins continue towards their burrows from the boardwalks.

The schedule follows the changing sunset time. The tour normally departs Melbourne at around 10am in winter and around 12.30pm in summer. Return to Melbourne is generally between approximately 9pm and midnight, with later finishes during the months when sunset occurs later. Allow around 12 hours for the complete experience and avoid making firm evening plans after the tour.

You can take photos during the daytime stops at Moonlit Sanctuary, Cowes and The Nobbies. Once the sun has set at the Penguin Parade, photography and filming are not permitted to help protect the little penguins. Put the camera away for the parade and enjoy the moment live. Phillip Island Nature Parks also provides professionally captured penguin images that can be downloaded for personal use.

General Viewing uses tiered seating overlooking the beach, where you can watch the penguins emerge from the water in groups. The beach crossing is only one part of the experience. After the penguins come ashore, follow the boardwalk back towards the visitor centre. Many penguins continue alongside the boardwalk on their way to the burrows, creating another wonderful opportunity to watch them at close range. Follow the ranger instructions and remain behind the barriers throughout the experience.

Yes. Meeting native animals at Moonlit Sanctuary and watching the little penguins return home make this a memorable wildlife day for families. Child and infant fares are available. It is a long day with an evening finish, so it is best suited to children who are comfortable with coach travel and staying out after sunset. Infant seats are available, but baby strollers cannot be carried on this tour.

Walking is spread throughout the day at Moonlit Sanctuary, Cowes, The Nobbies and the Penguin Parade boardwalks. Most stops can be enjoyed at a comfortable pace, although comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The Penguin Parade itself has accessible pathways and allocated wheelchair viewing areas. However, the transport and complete tour itinerary are not wheelchair accessible, and non-folding wheelchairs cannot be carried on the vehicle.
