The remaining 5% will be retained as a non-refundable administration and booking fee. Cancellations made within 5 days of travel will incur a 100% cancellation fee, including no-shows.

This is an active full-day experience, with regular walking at the coastal stops and across Port Arthur’s large historic grounds. The standard clifftop section is around 2 kilometres and usually takes 45–60 minutes on an undulating but easy-grade track. Reasonable fitness, good mobility and comfortable walking shoes will help you enjoy the day. Outdoor stops may change when weather or park access requires it.

You’ll have around four hours at Port Arthur, giving you time to explore far more than just the main penitentiary. Entry includes the harbour cruise around the Isle of the Dead, the Port Arthur Experience podcast and expert-led site talks. You can also discover the solitary cells, historic buildings and extensive ruins at your own pace.

It offers the best of both. Your tour guide introduces the day and helps bring the Tasman Peninsula’s history to life, while Port Arthur includes expert-led site talks and an audio podcast. You’ll still have plenty of freedom to choose the buildings, ruins and exhibitions that interest you most during your time on site.

Richmond is a relaxed late-afternoon stop of around 40–45 minutes. That is usually enough time to walk across the convict-built sandstone bridge, enjoy the historic streets and stop for a quick coffee, chocolate or something sweet before returning to Hobart.

It can be a rewarding day for families with older children who enjoy history, coastal scenery and being outdoors. Children must be at least 8 years old, and everyone should be comfortable with an early start, a full day away and regular walking. The mix of lookouts, coastal stops, Port Arthur and Richmond keeps the day varied.

Pickup and drop-off are included from selected Hobart hotels. Pickup usually takes place between 7.00am and 7.30am, depending on your location. The general meeting point is the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre at 20 Davey Street, with pickup at about 7.25am. The tour normally returns to Hobart at around 6.00pm.
