This is a full, active day with regular walking across the Tasman Peninsula, the wildlife park and Port Arthur. The standard coastal section is around 45 minutes on an easy-grade but undulating track, followed by more self-paced walking through the historic site. Reasonable fitness, good mobility and comfortable walking shoes will help you enjoy the day. Outdoor stops may change when park access or track conditions require it.

You’ll have around 2.5 hours at Port Arthur Historic Site. Entry includes the complimentary harbour cruise, short expert-led site talks and the self-guided audio experience, leaving time to explore the main penitentiary, solitary cells, historic buildings and grounds at your own pace.

It can be a great choice for families with older children who enjoy wildlife, history and being outdoors. Children must be at least 8 years old, and everyone needs to be comfortable with an early start, a full day of travel and regular walking. The devil feeding, wallaby encounter and harbour cruise give the day plenty of variety.

Meals and drinks aren’t included, but you’ll have food options at Port Arthur Historic Site, from café snacks and sandwiches to hot meals. You can also bring your own lunch, snacks and a large water bottle. If you have specific dietary needs, bringing suitable food with you gives you the most flexibility.

Pickup and drop-off are included from selected Hobart hotels. Pickup usually takes place between 7.00am and 7.30am, depending on your location, with the general meeting point at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre, 20 Davey Street. The tour normally returns to Hobart at around 6.00pm.

Richmond is a short late-afternoon stop, usually around 45 minutes. That gives you time to walk across the convict-built sandstone bridge, take a relaxed stroll through the village and, when time allows, stop for a quick coffee or sweet treat. It’s a lovely final taste of Richmond before the drive back to Hobart.
