Yes. The combination of a heritage steam train ride, Australian wildlife and a chocolate tasting gives children something different to enjoy at each stop. Families on the same itinerary frequently highlight the open-sided train journey, native animals and chocolate stop as an enjoyable mix for both children and adults.

The current experience uses Puffing Billy’s open-sided carriages, and sitting on the carriage sill with your legs outside is part of the traditional journey when permitted by railway staff on the day. Regular seating inside the carriage is also available if you prefer to enjoy the scenery from your seat.

The current itinerary allows around two hours at Healesville Sanctuary. This gives you time to focus on popular Australian animals such as koalas, kangaroos, wombats and platypuses, with the chance to catch a keeper talk if the timing lines up. The visit is designed around the sanctuary’s main highlights rather than every trail and habitat.

Lunch and drinks are not included. Food can be purchased during the day, with several cafés and takeaway options available at Healesville Sanctuary. Bringing a small snack is also useful, particularly on busy days when food outlets may be popular.

The visit includes a guided tasting of 12 handcrafted chocolates, complimentary showroom samples and the chance to watch chocolatiers at work. The stop is usually around 45 minutes, giving you time to enjoy the tasting, browse the displays and purchase chocolates or ice cream if you wish.
