What to expect

Set off on a convenient same-day return trip from Perth to Rottnest Island. Depart from Barrack Street Jetty and enjoy a scenic cruise along the Swan River, passing landmarks on the way to Fremantle before crossing the Indian Ocean to Rottnest Island.

Your journey takes place aboard the Quokka ferry, the newest and most environmentally friendly vessel in service. Relax in air-conditioned comfort with free WiFi, or purchase a tea, coffee, or snack from the onboard bar (at your own expense) to start your day.

Once you arrive at Rottnest Island, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Choose from a wide range of activities including bike riding, snorkeling, or joining guided tours (available at your own expense). For meals, either bring your own packed lunch or dine at one of the island’s many eateries and general stores.

After a day of exploration, simply reboard the ferry for your return cruise back to Perth, completing a perfect island escape.

The sea was a bit choppy but the boat ride was great, we toured the island by bus and saw the beaches and pristine waters, we had close up encounters with the adorable Quokkas, a lot had young in their pouches, some even ventured out. We did not pay or feed them as our human food is not good for them, The island has several very good eateries, plenty of toilet facilities and it's all wheelchair friendly. I would definitely go again and possibly stay in one of the chalets.

Rottnest Island with its friendly quokkas was a great experience. We cycled the whole day over the lovey island with its beautiful beaches. The ferry service was excellent.

The ferry departs from Perth at 8:30 AM and returns from Rottnest Island at 4:00/4:30 PM.

  • Limited paid parking is available near the terminal. Public transportation or a ride share is recommended
