Start your day with a convenient hotel pickup in Cairns and a short drive to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway terminal. Board your gondola and glide silently above the treetops of the World Heritage-listed rainforest, enjoying sweeping views across the canopy and out to the coast. Along the way, stop at two mid-stations to stretch your legs with short rainforest walks, visit lookouts over Barron Falls, or explore the CSIRO Interpretive Centre to learn more about this ancient ecosystem.
On arrival in Kuranda, known as the “Village in the Rainforest,” enjoy free time to explore at your own pace. Browse boutique shops, stroll through daily Heritage Markets, or simply relax in the laid-back tropical atmosphere.
In the afternoon, board the famous Kuranda Scenic Railway for the return journey. Travel along one of the world’s most scenic rail routes, passing through hand-carved tunnels and over bridges that span deep gorges and waterfalls. End the day with a coach transfer back to your Cairns accommodation.
Itineraries may operate in reverse or in a different sequence.
Return transfers are included from selected Cairns hotels/locations. Please check availability to see pick-up points.

Know before you go
Your hotel transfers and travel connections are organised, while the Skyrail journey, Kuranda Village and Scenic Railway are largely enjoyed independently. Ranger-led activities may be available at the Skyrail rainforest stops, and the train includes onboard commentary about the railway and surrounding landscape. This gives you an organised route with plenty of freedom to enjoy Kuranda at your own pace.
The timetable usually allows around two to three hours in Kuranda, depending on the operating schedule for your travel date. This is enough time to browse the markets, enjoy lunch and choose one main attraction or a short village walk. If a wildlife attraction is important to you, visit it first and use the remaining time for shops and cafés.
The gondolas are enclosed and travel at a smooth, steady pace, helping the journey feel calm and comfortable. You will still enjoy elevated views above the rainforest canopy and across Barron Gorge. Staff assist with boarding, and the cableway can be slowed or stopped when someone needs additional time.
Yes. The combination of cable car, heritage train, short rainforest stops and village free time makes the day engaging for families without requiring a long bushwalk. Children aged 14 and under must travel with an adult during the Skyrail experience. A small folding pram or stroller is the easiest option, as it needs to fit comfortably aboard the heritage train and transfers.
Yes. The enclosed Skyrail gondolas and heritage train make this a memorable rainforest experience in both wet and dry weather. Rain can bring mist through the canopy and stronger waterfall flow, while umbrellas are available at the Skyrail rainforest stops. Views change with the weather, but the rainforest atmosphere can be especially impressive after rain.
Yes. You can use your free time for the markets, cafés and galleries or visit one attraction such as the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld Kuranda or Kuranda Koala Gardens. Attraction entry is not included, so choose your priority before arriving and leave enough time to return for the train.
The day trip was great! Everything was on time, and it all went smoothly.
We had excellent communications to set up pickup instructions. The view from the tram was outstanding and had the right amount of time to visit Kuranda. The train ride back was a great experience.
Although raining but we get to see the wonderful gorge full of water. Amazing trip, and highly recommended.
Very clear and easily played out to follow. Clear instructions. Amazing scenery. Staff very helpful
The most fantastic day. Every part of it; even the wonderful staff on the sky rail during the thunderstorm. Highly recommend it.
