I liked the small group tour, Gina and Darren were friendly, and the Guide Debbie from Sovereign Hill was very welcoming and knowledgeable. I particularly enjoyed the gold panning exercise.

Yes. Your day includes Sovereign Hill admission and a guided underground mine tour, so you won’t need to purchase that core experience separately. Other optional activities at the museum, such as coach rides or costumed photography, cost extra and depend on availability.
It’s an immersive guided experience of around 45 minutes, taking you underground by inclined tram with a few seconds of darkness along the way. The tunnels are well lit once you’re below, and most guests can walk through comfortably without crawling or bending. Children are welcome with an adult, but families with young or sensory-sensitive children should be ready for the brief darkness.
Lunch isn’t included, but cafés inside Sovereign Hill sell meals, snacks and drinks, so you can choose what suits you during the break. Most dietary needs can be catered for on site—just speak with the café team when ordering.
The tour departs at 8am, with pickup available from Mercure Melbourne Southbank, Regent Theatre, Her Majesty’s Theatre and Mail Exchange Hotel. Select your preferred pickup point when booking and arrive around 10 minutes before your confirmed departure time.
Yes. Gold panning, costumed characters, live demonstrations and the underground mine tour make this an engaging day for families. Children under 16 join the mine tour with an adult, and baby or non-folding strollers can’t be carried in the tour vehicle. Strollers are available to hire at Sovereign Hill, subject to availability.
Wear comfortable closed shoes, as you’ll explore gravel paths, uneven ground and gently sloping streets. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat and an all-weather layer or windproof jacket—the tour operates in varied weather and Ballarat can feel cooler than Melbourne.
Sovereign Hill has accessible gold panning and some wheelchair-friendly mine experiences, but the complete day tour isn’t advertised as wheelchair accessible. Expect gravel, uneven ground and some slopes, and non-folding or electric wheelchairs can’t be carried in the tour vehicle. This experience best suits guests who can manage the vehicle and a moderate amount of walking.
