This booking is for the three-hour wilderness cruise, starting and finishing in Port Arthur. Port Arthur Historic Site entry, meals and transport from Hobart aren’t included. If you want a full day with Hobart transfers, choose one of the dedicated combination tours.

Check in at 6961 Arthur Highway, Port Arthur, around 100 metres before the Historic Site entrance. For the morning departure, arrive by 9:15 am for the approximately 10:00 am–1:00 pm experience; the seasonal afternoon departure runs 2:00–5:00 pm with check-in by 1:15 pm. Free parking is available at the booking centre, and you should allow about 90 minutes to drive from Hobart.

Most guests are comfortable, and there are practical ways to settle the motion if you’re sensitive. Complimentary ginger tablets are available, while a seat near the rear usually feels steadier. Stay cool, keep your eyes on the horizon and tell the crew early if you feel unwell.

The coast is rich with wildlife, so you may see fur seals, dolphins, albatross, sea eagles and other seabirds, with migrating whales possible at the right time of year. Sightings change from day to day because the animals are wild. Even without a particular species appearing, Cape Pillar, sea caves, waterfalls and dramatic rock formations make the cruise spectacular.

Dress in warm layers, even on a sunny day, because the wind on the open water can feel cold. A full-length waterproof and windproof jacket is provided, but a beanie, gloves and comfortable closed shoes will make the three hours more enjoyable. Bring your camera, and expect the possibility of some sea spray.

Yes, there is a small marine toilet on board. It sits below deck and is reached by four steps, so it’s best to use the accessible toilet at the booking centre before departure. Access to the onboard toilet may be paused when sea conditions make it unsafe.

Yes, children of all ages are welcome, and many enjoy the wildlife, speed and dramatic coastline. The cruise lasts around three hours on an open-style vessel, so it best suits children who are comfortable being on the water for that length of time. Dress them in plenty of warm layers, even in warmer weather.

Travellers who can manage steps with assistance may still be able to enjoy the cruise. Crew can help at boarding, but the daily jetty may involve a gravel slope, steps and a stepped entrance to the boat. It isn’t suitable if you need fully step-free or wheelchair-accessible transport.
