Check in at Rufus & Co Café at Port of Airlie from 8:30am, then board your fast, wave-piercing catamaran for a 9am departure. The crossing to Whitehaven Beach usually takes around 1 to 1.5 hours, with covered seating and plenty of Whitsunday scenery along the way.
Once ashore, the Beach Club setup becomes your base for the day, with shaded areas, paddleboards and beach games ready to use. Swim, take a walk along the silica sand or simply find a spot in the shade and slow down for a while. A buffet-style lunch, plus morning and afternoon snacks, is included before the boat returns to Airlie Beach at around 5pm.
How you spend the day depends on the option you choose. Pick the Whitehaven Beach Club option if you want the most time on the beach. Reef & Beach Snorkelling adds a guided snorkel at a nearby fringing reef, while Whitehaven Wanderer includes the Hill Inlet bushwalk and lookout. If this is your only day in the Whitsundays and you want to experience the beach, reef and Hill Inlet, the Ultimate Whitehaven Experience covers all three.
The order of activities and the snorkelling location may change depending on weather, tides and sea conditions.
Which Whitehaven option is right for you?
All options include Whitehaven Beach Club access, paddleboards, beach games, lunch and snacks. The main difference is how you spend the rest of your day:
1. Whitehaven Beach Club – The most beach time, with no snorkelling or Hill Inlet.
2. Reef & Beach Snorkelling – Beach time plus a guided fringing reef snorkel. No Hill Inlet.
3. Whitehaven + Hill Inlet Bushwalk – Beach time plus the Hill Inlet bushwalk and lookout. No snorkelling.
4. Ultimate Whitehaven Experience – Whitehaven Beach, reef snorkelling and Hill Inlet in one day, with less free time on the beach.
What an incredible experience! The skipper Riley was in total control the whole time and expertly navigated the vessel near whales so we could enjoy watching them breach. Alisha was fantastic at guiding the walk and providing safety briefings. Rodrigo was a master of managing the vessel and setting up lunch on whitehaven. Incredibly grateful to the team. What a wonderful experience.
We had an amazing time in Whitesunday Island and snorkeling in the reefs. The staff were friendly, very helpful and it was a perfect day! the kids also loved it!

The Whitehaven Beach Club option gives you the most time on the beach. If you choose snorkelling, Hill Inlet or the Ultimate Whitehaven Experience, part of your day is used for those activities, so you will have less free time on the sand. Exact timings and the order of activities can change with weather, tides and operating conditions.
No. You can choose the Whitehaven Beach Club or Whitehaven + Hill inlet bushwalk option and enjoy the beach, paddleboards, beach games or Hill Inlet without joining the snorkel. Basic swimming ability is required if you select an option that includes snorkelling.
Snorkelling is available for guests aged 6 and over, or younger guests who are competent swimmers. Basic swimming ability is required. Children under 12 must wear a life jacket during water activities and remain under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Snorkelling equipment is included, and stinger suits are provided during stinger season.
The Hill Inlet walk is short but uphill, with steps and some uneven ground. Queensland Parks grades the 1.4-kilometre return walk as easy to moderate and suggests allowing around 40 minutes. If stairs or uneven walking are difficult for you, choose an option without Hill Inlet.
Yes. The Beach Club gives families a relaxed base for the day, with shaded areas, paddleboards, beach games, lunch and snacks included. Families travelling with young children may prefer the Whitehaven Beach Club option, as it offers the most time on the beach without snorkelling or the Hill Inlet walk. If you choose an option with snorkelling, check the age and swimming requirements above before booking. Children must remain under the supervision of a parent or guardian throughout the tour.
The Beach Club setup includes shared shade, paddleboards and beach games. Public toilet facilities are available at Whitehaven Beach, although they may not be immediately beside the Beach Club area, and water bottles can be refilled onboard. Facilities are simple, so bring the essentials listed in What To Bring.
The buffet lunch is included, but special diets are not specifically catered for. If you have an allergy or strict dietary requirement, contact us before booking and bring suitable food or snacks for the day if needed.
The catamaran is designed for a stable ride, but conditions can still be choppy. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider taking your usual motion-sickness medication before departure, following the product directions or your pharmacist’s advice. Preventatives may also be available to buy onboard.

This was a brilliant trip for us as a family of six and we enjoyed some time on the amazing Whitehaven Beach before going off and exploring the mountain paths. Next was a great lunch and then a trip to snorkel a nearby reef, where we were snorkeling within a few metres of a huge beautiful turtle …… the highlight of our trip to Queensland !!
Super friendly staff, clear instructions and happy to help and answer any questions you have. We were lucky enough to see a turtle while snorkelling aswell.
Very professional and friendly staff at the meeting point, on the boat and at the beach. Whitehaven Beach was great. At value for money day. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in a pleasant day at the beach.
