What to expect

Begin the day on Whitehaven Beach, with clear shallows in front of you and its famous white silica sand beneath your feet. This morning option gives you time to swim, walk or simply settle into the view, then brings you back to Airlie Beach with plenty of the afternoon still free.

The cruise leaves Port of Airlie at around 7.15am and travels through the Whitsunday Passage aboard a large air-conditioned vessel. Brief stops at Daydream Island and Hamilton Island form part of the journey as other guests join, and some services include a vessel connection at Hamilton Island. Along the way, the island scenery makes the ride feel like part of the Whitsundays experience rather than just a transfer.

At the southern end of Whitehaven Beach, you will have up to two hours to shape the morning your way. Swim from the beach when conditions suit, follow the short track to the Southern Whitehaven Beach Lookout, join the available beach activities or find your own stretch of sand and slow down. Morning tea and protective stinger suits are included.

This experience is centred on South Whitehaven Beach and its lookout. Hill Inlet and snorkelling are not included. The cruise returns to Port of Airlie at around 2.15pm, giving you a relaxed morning among the islands without committing to a full-day itinerary.

Great introduction to the area. We will return next year and spend some of our holidays on one of the islands. Staff were excellent!

Frequently asked questions

What time does the morning tour depart and return?

The cruise is scheduled to leave Port of Airlie at around 7.15am and return at around 2.15pm. The terminal is located at 24 The Cove Road, Airlie Beach.

Does the boat travel directly from Airlie Beach to Whitehaven Beach?

The journey includes island connections rather than travelling directly to the beach. Port of Airlie services stop at Hamilton Island, may also collect guests from Daydream Island, and some departures require a vessel change at Hamilton Island. These connections form part of the scheduled journey through the Whitsundays.

How much time will I have at Whitehaven Beach?

You will have up to two hours at the southern end of Whitehaven Beach. You can use this time to swim, walk along the silica sand, visit the Southern Whitehaven Beach Lookout or relax beside the water.

Does this tour visit Hill Inlet?

No. The tour visits the southern end of Whitehaven Beach and provides access to the Southern Whitehaven Beach Lookout. Hill Inlet is at the northern end of the beach and requires a different boat transfer.

Is snorkelling included?

No. This experience focuses on swimming, walking and relaxing at South Whitehaven Beach. It does not visit a fringing reef, and snorkelling equipment is not provided.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

Yes. The large air-conditioned vessel, flexible beach time and choice between swimming, a short lookout walk or relaxing on the sand make it a practical option for families. Children must remain under close adult supervision at the beach and in the water.

How much walking is required?

No long walk is compulsory. The Southern Whitehaven Beach Lookout walk is optional, and you can spend the beach stop swimming or relaxing instead. Transfers to the beach use tender vessels with ramps, and a beach wheelchair may be available by prior arrangement, subject to availability.

Louder voice over & a bit of commentary along the way of the islands would have been nice! The change of vessels on Hamilton Island could have been a bit longer for tourists to purchase souvenirs &/or food. More selection of food on the vessel would be good! All in all the day was awesome!
