What to expect

Spend two days sailing through the Whitsundays aboard Siska, a 77-foot former racing yacht made for travellers who want more than a quick island day trip. Meet the crew at Port of Airlie for the 8:30am departure, then find a spot on deck as the sails go up and the mainland slips away. If you feel like getting involved, lend the crew a hand with the sailing; otherwise, stretch out and enjoy the ride.

The skipper plans each trip around the wind, tides and sea conditions, but the main highlights are Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet Lookout and snorkelling among the fringing reefs of the Whitsunday Islands. Walk through the island bushland for that famous view over Hill Inlet, spend time on Whitehaven’s white silica sand, then cool off in the water or join the group for a snorkel. Equipment and stinger suits are provided, and you are welcome to relax onboard if you prefer not to snorkel.

One of the best parts of Siska is staying out among the islands after the day boats have started heading home. The yacht anchors in a sheltered bay for the night, giving you time to watch the sunset from the deck, share snacks and dinner with the group and enjoy an evening on the water. Bring your own drinks, get to know your fellow travellers and look up when the stars come out.

You will sleep below deck in shared bunk accommodation, choosing a single bunk or half of a double bunk when booking. The yacht is not air-conditioned, so expect a simple and social overnight sailing experience rather than private-cabin luxury. Siska is best suited to travellers who value adventure, atmosphere and meeting new people over hotel-style comfort.

Wake up surrounded by the Whitsunday Islands, catch the sunrise from the deck and enjoy a continental breakfast onboard. Depending on conditions, the morning may include another snorkelling session, a swim or an island stop before lunch. Then help raise the sails one more time—or settle back on deck—for the journey across the Whitsunday Passage, returning to Port of Airlie at around 4pm.
